Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, February 11, 2012.

Precipitation will spread across the East Coast on Saturday, while more rain and mountain snow showers are anticipated for parts of the West. A trough of low pressure and associated cold front continue moving eastward across the Eastern Valleys into the Eastern Seaboard. Cool temperatures to the north will allow for snow showers to develop across the Northeast and New England, while rain showers are likely over the Mid-Atlantic states. Rain showers over the Southeastern states should wind down in the early morning hours as the tail end of the system pushes offshore early in the day. Expect the New York metropolitan area to see 1 to 3 inches of snow, while the Washington D.C. area will see a messy combination of snow and freezing rain as high temperatures reach into the lower 40s.

Behind this system, a ridge of high pressure continues to build in from the Plains, pushing cold and dry air in from Canada. This allows for plenty of sunshine to spread from the Plains over the Mississippi River Valley and into the Eastern Valleys. Expect the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest to see highs in the teens again, while the Midwest will see highs in the 20s. Strong winds will accompany this system, pushing windchill values below zero in these areas. The Southern Plains will remain in the 40s on Saturday.

Out West, a trough of low pressure pushes a cold front over the Pacific Northwest and continues pulling moisture onshore with it. This will kick up more rain showers with high elevation snow showers likely in the Cascades. The tail end of the frontal boundary will sweep through California, bringing light rain showers to the coasts and interior valleys. Expect light snow showers in the Sierra Nevadas by Saturday evening.

Nowcast as of 12:35 PM EST on February 11, 2012
The cold front has moved into the Florida Straits with a fresh northwest breeze pushing cooler and drier air into the Central Peninsula. Skies will be mostly sunny this afternoon...sustained winds between 15 to 20 mph with gusts between 25 and 30 mph will generate rough conditions on area lakes. A lake Wind Advisory is in effect for all of east central Florida through 6 PM this evening. Temperatures will turn much colder after sunset as the northwest winds tap an Arctic airmass moving into the deep south. Readings are expected to fall to near freezing along and north of the I-4 corridor and into the mid to upper 30s elsewhere. Winds between 10 and 15 mph over the interior and 15 to 20 mph near the coast will generate wind chill readings ranging from the low 20s north of I-4 to the low to mid 30s along the space and Treasure coasts. The coldest readings will occur in the predawn hours and just after sunrise. Between 4 am and 9 am Sunday morning...a Wind Chill Advisory will be in effect for all of east central Florida and a freeze warning in effect for Orange...Lake...Volusia...and Seminole counties. Additional details...including graphics are available online at: http://www.Srh.NOAA.Gov/mlb/blog.Php

Freeze Warning, Lake Wind Advisory, Wind Chill Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 12:30 PM EST on February 11, 2012

... Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST this
evening...
... Freeze warning in effect from 4 am to 9 am EST Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a freeze
warning... which is in effect from 4 am to 9 am EST Sunday.

* Timing... Arctic high pressure will build southward over east
central Florida tonight and bring freezing temperatures to
lake... Volusia... Seminole and Orange counties. Up to 5 hours of
freezing temperatures are expected. Low temperatures will dip
into the upper 20s across portions of lake and northwest
Volusia counties... lower 30s elsewhere in the warning area.
Urbanized areas such as Orlando may remain just above freezing
or hit freezing only briefly.

* Impacts... the freezing temperatures will cause damage to cold
sensitive plants and vegetation.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or
highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other
sensitive vegetation.

430 am EST Sat Feb 11 2012

... Wind Chill Advisory in effect from 4 am to 9 am EST Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Wind Chill
Advisory... which is in effect from 4 am to 9 am EST Sunday.

* Northwest winds around 10 to 15 mph overnight will combine with
chilly overnight temperatures to produce wind chill values near
or below freezing for all of east central Florida. Wind chill
values will range from the upper 20s across the interior to the
low 30s along the coastal areas of the space and Treasure
coasts.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and strong winds will
combine to generate low wind chills. If you must venture
outdoors... dress warmly in layers and make sure you wear a hat
and gloves.

Fire Weather Watch
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 5:02 AM EST on February 11, 2012

... Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from Sunday morning

humidity for interior counties...

* affected area... inland Volusia... Northern Lake... Orange...
Seminole... Osceola... Okeechobee... coastal Volusia... Southern
Lake.

* Wind... northwest to north 10 to 15 mph with some higher gusts.

* Humidity... six to eight hours of critical rh values with
minimum rh around 20 percent.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather
conditions... long durations of low relative humidity or a
combination of low relative humidity and strong winds... are
possible between 24 and 72 hours.
