... Winter Weather Advisory for blowing snow remains in effect
from 8 am Wednesday to 5 am MST Thursday...
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a Wind Chill
Advisory... which is in effect until 9 am MST Wednesday. A Winter
Weather Advisory for blowing snow remains in effect from 8 am
Wednesday to 5 am MST Thursday.
* Timing: winds will increase over and near the mountains late
tonight and then affect all of southeast Wyoming Wednesday
through Thursday. The winds will be sustained at 25 to 35 mph
with gusts as high as 50 mph during that time.
* Total snow accumulations: a few inches of new snow are possible
over the Snowy Range tonight through Wednesday night. Little if
any additional snow will fall elsewhere through Wednesday night.
* Winds/visibilities: the strong winds Wednesday and Wednesday
night will produce widespread blowing and drifting snow. The
winds will gust as high as 50 mph and visibilities will be near
zero at times.
* Wind chill values: 20 to 30 below zero for much of tonight
through mid morning Wednesday... and again Wednesday night.
* Impacts: the widespread blowing and drifting snow will create
hazardous travel conditions with low visibilities Wednesday and
Wednesday night. Area roads will remain snow packed and slick.
The bitterly cold wind chill values will make being outside
dangerous for any extended period of time.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory for blowing snow means that visibilities
will be limited due to strong winds blowing snow around. Use
caution when traveling... especially in open areas.
The wind chill is the temperature your body feels when the air
temperature is combined with the wind speed. With wind chills in
the minus 20 to 29 degree range frostbite can occur in as little
as 30 minutes. The most susceptible parts of the body are the
extremities such as fingers... toes... ear lobes... or the tip of
the nose.
