A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am EST Thursday.
An Arctic front blowing through the area toward midnight will be accompanied by brief wind gusts that could exceed 40 mph... in a snow squall that reduces visibilities to under a quarter mile. In addition to a quick coating... temperatures falling rapidly below freezing will cause a quick freeze of moisture on roads.
In the wake of an Arctic front... snow will affect the area overnight into Wednesday night. Gusty northwest winds over 30 mph at times... with gusts over 40 mph in the higher elevations... will cause some blowing and drifting of the snow.
Total snow accumulations will generally range from 5 to 10 inches... with higher amounts possible in the higher elevations... before snow tapers off Wednesday night.
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous... especially tonight through Wednesday night. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
