Special Statement
Statement as of 5:47 PM EST on March 05, 2015

Here is a special river statement for the Kanawha river...

The Kanawha river in Charleston was in its last stages of
cresting.

The water level was still remaining around 27.5 feet at 5 PM.
This is the National Weather Service forecast point... located
under the south side bridge in downtown Charleston.

This level will continue to cause minor flooding of the most
vulnerable dips and low spots along the river... and even
up the mouths of feeder streams.

Water levels will not go higher... and will begin to recede this
evening... then at a faster pace on Friday. A snow line will become
visible along the river bank as the water recedes.

As a result... water problems along these vulnerable low spots
will decrease for Friday morning.

The water level on the Kanawha river today was the highest in a
few years. A higher crest of 28.7 feet at Charleston occurred
back in March of 2010.
