Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, June 18, 2013.

Wet and unsettled weather continues for parts of the East and South on Tuesday as a cold front dropping southeastward across the Midwest reinforces another frontal boundary extending from the Northeast through the Central Plains. Expect rain and thunderstorm activity along and ahead the advancing cold front in parts of the Ohio Valley into New England, while a cooler airmass behind this cold front leads to cooler daytimes highs in the Upper Great Lakes and Northeast. Areas of isolated to scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop south of the main frontal disturbance from the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast through the Central and Southern Plains. Impulses from from the West will enhance precipitation eastern Oklahoma and northeastern Texas, as well as create the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms in parts of the Central and Southern High Plains. The Storm Prediction Center issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development from the late afternoon through the evening. While the main concerns with these storms are isolated areas of hail and damaging wind gusts, a localized tornado threat remains possible.

Meanwhile, thunderstorm will pick up across the High Plains late Monday afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development for parts of the region. While the main concerns with these storms are hail and damaging wind gusts, conditions may turn favorable for isolated tornadoes by the evening.

Out West, an upper level low located off the Pacific Northwest coast will bring progressively better chances for showers to the region through the mid-week. The low will slowly work its way closer to the coast Tuesday, before moving inland Wednesday.

Special Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:14 AM EDT on June 18, 2013

... Scattered thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall will affect
Boone... Kanawha and northern Fayette counties...

At 206 am EDT... scattered thunderstorm with very heavy rainfall were
located 17 miles west of Fayetteville... moving northeast at 5 mph.

Wind gusts to 40 mph and small hail are possible with these
thunderstorms. Very heavy rain will fall from these
thunderstorms... and will cause water to pond on roads and quickly
fill roadside ditches and small streams.

These thunderstorms will be near South Charleston around 215
am... South Charleston around 220 am... Dawes... Chesapeake... Belle...
and Marmet around 225 am... Belle... and Cross Lanes around 230
am... Sharon around 235 am and Charleston around 245 am.

This will impact the following interstates... I-64 between mile
markers 46 and 57 in West Virginia... I-77 between mile markers 96 and
116 in West Virginia... I-79 between mile markers 1 and 13... the West
Virginia Turnpike between mile markers 65 and 95.

Drivers should exercise caution when driving over wet roads. Pockets
of ponding water could produce your vehicle hydroplane and loose
control. Allow more distance between vehicles and allow extra time
to reach your destination.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas...
highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage
areas and low lying spots.

You may report significant weather by posting your report to the
Charleston West Virginia National Weather Service facebook Page... or
