* Flash Flood Watch for portions of West Virginia... central West
Virginia... northern West Virginia and southern West Virginia...
   including the following areas... in West Virginia...
Pocahontas. In central West Virginia... Braxton... Calhoun...
Clay... Gilmer... Jackson WV... Roane... Taylor and Webster. In
northern West Virginia... Barbour... Doddridge... Harrison...
Lewis... Pleasants... Randolph... Ritchie... Tyler... Upshur...
Wirt and wood. In southern West Virginia... Boone... Kanawha...
Lincoln... Logan and Putnam.

* Until 8 PM EDT this evening

* showers and thunderstorms will continue to increase in coverage
through the afternoon. These will be capable of producing an
inch in an hour... locally higher possible for locations that see
brief training. The ground is rather wet from the past few days
of rain. Thus... these rates and amounts will increase the threat for
flash flooding this afternoon... particularly in the more flashy
creeks and small streams.

* Persons living near small streams and creeks should monitor
water levels.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

... Summary...
the National Weather Service in Charleston WV has confirmed a
microburst in Teays Valley in Putnam County West Virginia on may
22 2013.

A NWS meteorologist surveyed microburst damage from a severe
thunderstorm that occurred around 3:30 PM on Wednesday may 22nd
along primarliy Marina drive in Teays Valley... West Virginia. The
microburst had wind speeds of 70 to 80 mph causing several trees
to be blown down or uprooted... ultimately leading to the
destruction of two Mobile homes and damage to five more Mobile
homes. In addition... an uprooted tree turned a vehicle on its
side.

For reference...
a microburst is a convective downdraft with an affected outflow
area of less than 2 1/2 miles wide and peak winds lasting less
than 5 minutes. Microbursts may induce dangerous
horizontal/vertical wind shears... which can adversely affect
aircraft performance and cause property damage. Straight-line
winds are generally any wind that is not associated with
rotation... used mainly to differentiate them from tornadic winds.
