... Flash Flood Watch in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening...
The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for portions of West Virginia... central West
Virginia... northern West Virginia and southern West Virginia...
including the following areas... in West Virginia...
Pocahontas. In central West Virginia... Braxton... Calhoun...
Clay... Gilmer... Jackson WV... Roane... Taylor and Webster. In
northern West Virginia... Barbour... Doddridge... Harrison...
Lewis... Pleasants... Randolph... Ritchie... Tyler... Upshur...
Wirt and wood. In southern West Virginia... Boone... Kanawha...
Lincoln... Logan and Putnam.
* Until 8 PM EDT this evening
* showers and thunderstorms will continue to increase in coverage
through the afternoon. These will be capable of producing an
inch in an hour... locally higher possible for locations that see
brief training. The ground is rather wet from the past few days
of rain. Thus... these rates and amounts will increase the threat for
flash flooding this afternoon... particularly in the more flashy
creeks and small streams.
* Persons living near small streams and creeks should monitor
water levels.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
