Statement as of 12:05 PM CST on December 23, 2009 ... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 PM CST Friday... A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 PM CST Friday. * Occasional light snow... sleet and freezing drizzle will move through the area this afternoon. Widespread snow and freezing rain should advance into much of the area this evening. * Snow and freezing rain will be the main precipitation forms through Christmas day. * Ice accumulations of up to a quarter of an inch are expected from this afternoon through Thursday night. Highest snowfall amounts of 12 to 18 inches are expected from points west of a line from Charles City Iowa to Arcadia Wisconsin... with 6 to 12 inches east of this line. * Hazardous travel conditions are expected today through Christmas day due to snow and ice accumulations. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow... sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
