... Dense fog advisory remains in effect until 3 PM CST this afternoon...
A dense fog advisory remains in effect across the twin ports... up the North Shore... throughout the Iron Range including the Grand Rapids area... and also The Arrowhead til 3 PM CST this afternoon.
As wide bands of light rain move north... widespread fog will occasionally become quite dense... making driving slow and difficult. Periods of rain may clear much of the fog out of some areas for two or three hours... but continued inflow of warm moist air will allow the fog to re-develop and again become very dense.
Daytime heating will cause the fog to lift and become less dense late this afternoon. Light rain and dense fog are apt to return tonight and continue into Tuesday.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A dense fog advisory means visibilities will be reduced to less than a quarter mile in some locations. Rapid changes in visibility from a few miles to only a few hundred feet may occur over very short distances. If you are driving... slow down... use low beam headlights and be prepared for the sudden loss of visibility as you enter fog banks. Many deadly accidents happen in instances where dense fog is not widespread... but where rapid changes in visibility occur and drivers suddenly cannot see as they drive into a dense fog bank.
