A Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning have been posted and are in effect until early Wednesday morning. Light snow and flurries have been observed in many locations since 7 PM CST. Between 930 PM CST and midnight...look for the snow coverage and intensity to gradually increase in southern Wisconsin. Areas within 50 miles of Lake Michigan could see a few bursts of moderate snow at times given the easterly flow off the lake. Even with the trend of increasing snow this evening...only minor accumulations are possible before midnight. There is a much better chance for accumulating between midnight and 6 am Tuesday. Given the light snow...motorists should still use a bit of caution on less traveled roads this evening. Even a dusting of snow can create a few slick spots. Temperatures this evening will remain in the upper 20s near the lake...and lower to mid 20s well inland. Stay tuned to the latest forecast and winter weather headlines tonight and throughout the day Tuesday.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am CST Wednesday.
* Timing... periods of light snow will transition to steady snow overnight. The snow will then persist through Tuesday night.
* Snow accumulations will range from 8 to 11 inches by late Tuesday night. The heaviest snow will fall Tuesday.
* Winds... east winds of 5 to 15 mph will turn to the north to northeast on Tuesday and increase to 15 to 25 mph... with gusts to 30 mph Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. These winds will cause blowing and drifting snow to develop... especially in open areas.
* Impacts... heavy snow accumulations and a relatively dry powdery snow will make for deteriorating travel conditions late tonight and Tuesday morning. Blustery north winds will cause blowing and drifting snow Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night resulting in continued treacherous travel conditions. The blowing snow may reduce the visibility to less than one half mile in open areas.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected. Significant amounts of snow are forecast... along with blowing and drifting that will make travel hazardous. If you are traveling... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
