Active Advisory: Areal Flood Warning (US Severe Weather) Active Notice: Local Storm Report
Tropical Weather: Tropical Storm Beryl (North Atlantic)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, May 28, 2012.

Tropical Storm Beryl will move slowly northwestward and then turn northward over portions of northeastern Florida and southeastern Georgia

on Monday and Monday night. Strong wind and rain will continue to effect these areas up through North Carolina as Beryl moves inland, while dangerous surf conditions, including rip currents, remain a concern along the coastal areas from northeastern Florida to North Carolina. Rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are expected from northern Florida through southeastern North Carolina from this system. For more information on Beryl, please visit http://www.wunderground.com/tropical.

Meanwhile, to the north, the deep storm in the Dakotas will lift northeastward across the Upper Mississippi Valley with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The cold front associated with this system will extend southwestward from the low through the Southern Plains. Showers and thunderstorms will form ahead of the front from the Central and Southern Plains into the Upper Great Lakes. There is a slight risk of severe storms from Wisconsin and Michigan southwestward across portions of eastern Iowa, northern Indiana, Illinois, and northeastern Missouri. While the main concerns with storms in these areas are damaging wind gusts and large hail, a few tornadoes may also become possible. To the south, areas of south-central Oklahoma into northwestern Texas may experience hail and damaging wind gusts. To the east of this system, an associated warm front will extend through the Northeast and will become nearly stationary. Moisture overrunning this front will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms from areas of the Lower Great Lakes into the Northeast. There is a slight risk of severe storms from upstate New York into Vermont and western Massachusetts with isolated hail events.

In the west, showers will continue across parts of the Northern Intermountain West and Northern Rockies, while a cold front brings cool, cloudy and chances of showers to the Pacific Northwest.

Areal Flood Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:00 AM CDT on May 28, 2012

... Flood Warning remains in effect for northern Bayfield... northern
Douglas and southeastern Carlton counties until 430 PM CDT Monday...

At 154 am CDT... rain continued to fall over Douglas and Carlton
counties. Local law enforcement officials earlier had reported
reported several area roads were closed or damaged by high water
across the warned area. Areas impacted stretch from the Nemadji
river headwaters east to the Bayfield peninsula... mainly north of
United States Highway 2. Two to three inches of rain had fallen
across these areas during the overnight hours Saturday into
Sunday... with additional accumulations so tonight up to an inch
across Douglas and Carlton counties. Little additional rain has
fallen over Bayfield County tonight... but runoff from previous rain
will still occur and area rivers will remain high.

Runoff from all this excessive rainfall will cause flooding to occur.
Some locations that will experience flooding include... Barksdale...
Bayfield... Bennett... Blueberry... Brule... Cloverland... Cornucopia...
Foxboro... Hawthorne... Herbster... Holyoke... Ino... Iron River... Lake
Nebagamon... Maple... Moquah... Nemadji... Oliver... Oulu... Patzau...
Pleasant Valley... Poplar... Port Wing... Red Cliff... Sand Bay... Scotts
Corner... South Range... Waino... Washburn and Wentworth.

Overall... the rain intensity has diminished early this morning. More
rain is expected tonight into Monday morning... with an additional
half to one inch possible... but generally be a half inch or less
across the Bayfield peninsula. There may be a few breaks in the rain
from time to time.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from this storm will cause flooding of small creeks
and streams... country roads... normally dry washes... as well as
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed... act quickly. Do not
enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground. Do not
stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams... rivers... or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.
