Statement as of 5:30 PM PST on November 16, 2009 ... Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday morning... The Flood Watch continues for * portions of western Washington... including the following counties... Grays Harbor... Clallam... Jefferson... Skagit... Whatcom... Lewis... Mason... Snohomish... Thurston. * Through Wednesday morning * heavy rain in the Olympics drove several rivers above flood stage today. More rivers could flood tonight as heavy rain continues. The Chehalis river and its tributaries could experience minor flooding late tonight or Tuesday... but flooding is not yet certain on most of the river. * The Nooksack river in Whatcom County cloud also flood. If flooding does develop on the Nooksack river it would most likely occur Tuesday morning. The Skagit River in Skagit County and the stillaguamish river in Snohomish County could also have minor flooding. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding but flooding is not imminent or occurring. Monitor the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service and be ready to act quickly if flooding is observed or a warning is issued. |

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Wind Advisory... which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to noon PST Tuesday. The Wind Advisory from this morning has expired. The high wind watch is no longer in effect. Another period of damaging winds is possible tonight through Tuesday morning as a deep surface low moves northeast across Vancouver Island. Widespread winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph are possible with this system. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph or gusts of 45 to 57 mph are likely. Winds this strong can snap small tree branches... topple small or shallow-rooted trees... and cause local power outages. |
