... High surf advisory in effect from 10 PM this evening to 10 PM
PST Tuesday...
... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 10 am to 4 PM PST
Tuesday...
The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a high surf
advisory for the central Washington coast... which is in effect
from 10 PM this evening to 10 PM PST Tuesday. A coastal Flood
Advisory has also been issued for the central Washington coast.
This coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 10 am to 4 PM PST
Tuesday. The coastal Flood Watch is no longer in effect.
Southwest swell reaching the Washington coast will build to
around 20 feet late this evening then continue near that height
through Tuesday evening.
In addition to the large swell reaching the coastal beaches... the
combination of high surf... low atmospheric pressure... persistent
strong southwest winds and high tides will cause water levels to
rise higher than normal... causing minor tidal overflow or coastal
flooding in low-lying areas around the time of high tide.
At Aberdeen... the predicted high tide of 11.1 feet will occur
around 1245 PM Tuesday. Minor tidal overflow usually begins when
tides reach 13.5 feet. The additional effects of the high
surf... southwest winds and low pressure should be enough to push
water levels to near or slightly above the 13.5 foot threshold for
minor tidal overflow in Aberdeen. These higher water levels are
expected between roughly 10 am PST and 4 PM PST Tuesday.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings... and take action to
protect property.
Large waves reaching the coastal beaches can be powerful enough
to sweep unwary beach walkers out to sea. People can be seriously
injured by debris... such as logs... tossed about in the waves.
Higher than normal tides the next couple of days may help waves
push further up the beaches than people normally expect.
