Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 2:42 PM PST on November 14, 2009
... Flood Watch in effect from late Sunday night through Tuesday
afternoon...
The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of western Washington... including the
following counties... Grays Harbor... Jefferson... Whatcom... and
Mason.
* From late Sunday night through Tuesday afternoon
* heavy rain in the Olympics Monday through Tuesday could drive
some rivers to flood stage. The Skokomish River in Mason County
is the river most likely to rise above flood stage during the
watch period. Other rivers in the olympic peninsula basin
susceptible to strong southwest flow such as the Satsop river are
also at risk.
* The Nooksack river in Whatcom County will also rise sharply.
Current forecast models indicate the heavier rain in the north
Cascades will occur late Monday afternoon through Tuesday. If
flooding does develop on the Nooksack river it most likely would
not occur until Monday night or Tuesday.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding but
flooding is not imminent or occurring. Monitor the latest
forecasts from the National Weather Service and be ready to act
quickly if flooding is observed or a warning is issued.
