Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, February 18, 2012.

Two strong weather features will affect the nation on Saturday. A low pressure system will slowly move through the South, and continues pulling moisture onshore from the Gulf of Mexico. This will kick up more scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Southeastern states. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe from eastern Texas through Georgia. Most of these storms will include strong winds, large hail, and possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile, out West, a low pressure system dips southward from the Gulf of Alaska and pushes an associated cold front over the Pacific Northwest. On Saturday, this system will bring heavy rain and snow showers to the Intermountain West and Northern Rockies. Expect 4 to 6 inches of new snow in the Cascades, with light snow showers extending into the Northern Sierras. The Northern Rockies will see new snowfall accumulation ranging from 7 to 11 inches.

Between these two systems, a ridge of high pressure will build over the Central US, stretching over the Northern and Central Plains, over the Midwest, and into the Northeast. Expect dry and mostly sunny conditions in these areas with mild temperatures. The Northern Plains and Upper Midwest will see highs in the 30s and 40s, while the Ohio River Valley and parts of the Northeast may reach into the lower 50s.
