Warnings and Notices
Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 9:58 AM PST on November 15, 2009
... Flood Watch in effect from late tonight through Wednesday
morning...
The National Weather Service in Seattle has expanded the
* Flood Watch to include portions of western Washington...
including the following counties... Skagit and Snohomish.
* From late tonight through Wednesday morning
* the Skagit River in Skagit County could flood or reach near
flood stage. If flooding does develop on the Skagit River it
would most likely occur Monday night or Tuesday. Other river
basins in Skagit and Snohomish counties are also at risk.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding but
flooding is not imminent or occurring. Monitor the latest
forecasts from the National Weather Service and be ready to act
quickly if flooding is observed or a warning is issued.
Wind Advisory, High Wind Watch
Statement as of 12:09 PM PST on November 15, 2009
... Wind Advisory in effect until 6 PM PST this evening...
... High wind watch remains in effect from Monday morning through
Tuesday morning...
The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect until 6 PM PST this evening. A high
wind watch remains in effect from Monday morning through Tuesday
morning.
Strengthening winds aloft will interact with the Olympics and give
very windy conditions this afternoon to the north interior.
Southeast winds 25 to 35 mph with occasional gusts to 50 mph will
continue through about 6 PM this evening.
Strong southeast winds of 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph are
possible Monday as a wave of low pressure passes to the west of
the area and strong winds aloft come down to the surface.
Even stronger south winds of 40 to 50 mph with gusts to 70 mph
are possible late Monday night and Tuesday morning as a strong
970 mb low develops along the coast and moves into central
Vancouver Island.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high wind watch means conditions are favorable for a damaging
wind event.
Prepare today for the possibility of damaging winds Monday... late
Monday night... and Tuesday morning. Winds of 40 to 50 mph with
gusts to 70 mph can topple trees... down power lines... and damage
some structures. Power outages can be widespread and can locally
last for a few days.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph or
gusts of 45 to 57 mph are likely. Winds this strong can snap
small tree branches... topple small or shallow-rooted trees... and
cause local power outages.
