Public Information Statement
Statement as of 5:00 am PDT on September 2, 2014

...Warmest July and August on record in Seattle... ...Second year in a row with a warm middle of the Summer...

The average temperature for July 1st through August 31st this year in Seattle was 69.2 degrees. This is the warmest average temperature for this two month period on record breaking the old record of 68.8 degrees set in 1967.

The average high for the two month period was 80.0 degrees. This is only the second time where the average high for July and August was 80 degrees or more. The record is 80.2 degrees in 1967.

The average low was 58.4 degrees...second warmest on record. The warmest on record is 58.5 degrees last year.

This is the second year in a row with a warm middle of the Summer. Last year the average temperature for July and August was 68.7 degrees which is the third warmest on record. The average high for July and August 2013 was 79.0 degrees which is fifth warmest on record. The average low was the warmest on record ( see above ).

The warm days have been followed by warm nights. Since records started at Seattle Tacoma Airport in 1945...there have only been 5 months in Seattle with 10 or more days with lows 60 degrees or higher. Three of those months have occurred within the last two years...August and September 2013 and August 2014. Last year there were 34 days with lows 60 plus in Seattle crushing the previous record at Seattle-Tacoma Airport of 18 days set in 1994. This year through September 1st there has been 18 days with lows 60 degrees or higher so there is a good chance 2014 will end up with the second most number of 60 degrees or more low temperature days.
