A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EST Friday.
The approaching new phase of the moon... in tandem with the strong
onshore flow... will lead to increasing tidal anomalies for the
upcoming tide cycles tonight and Friday morning. The greatest
threat for severe flooding can be expected during the high tide
cycle Friday morning... as anomalies reach 3 to 4 feet above
normal. The anomalies will diminish to 2 to 3 feet above normal
by late Friday afternoon and evening.
The high tide cycles this afternoon saw water levels referenced
to mean lower low water... reaching 5.08 feet at Ocean City... 6.47
feet at Kiptopeke... and 6.93 feet at Wachapreague. These values
represent moderate to severe flooding.
The high tide cycles Friday morning will occur at 322 am EST at
Ocean City Inlet... at 500 am EST at Wachapreague... and at 442 am
EST at Kiptopeke. Water levels with these high tides referenced to
mean lower low water... are expected to reach 5.5 to 6.5 feet at
Ocean City Inlet... 7.0 to 8.0 feet at Wachapreague... and 6.5 to
7.5 feet at Kiptopeke... resulting in moderate to severe flooding.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

Isle of Wight... Newport News/Hampton... Norfolk/Portsmouth...
Northampton VA... Southampton... Suffolk... Virginia Beach and
York.
* Through Friday morning
* periods of rain will continue overnight into Friday morning.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected across
the area... with locally higher amounts possible. Total rainfall
amounts from this storm will will range between 8 and 12
inches... with locally higher amounts.
* Additional rainfall may cause flooding of creeks and small
streams through Friday morning. Also... flooding may occur in
poor drainage areas.
