Statement as of 10:06 PM EST on December 17, 2009 ... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Friday evening through late Saturday night... A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Friday evening through late Saturday night. A mix of rain and snow is expected to develop over much of interior eastern Virginia later Friday afternoon... as a low pressure system strengthens along the southeast United States coast. A mix of rain and snow is expected to continue Friday night and early Saturday morning... with a changeover to all snow expected later Saturday morning and afternoon. Significant accumulations of snow are possible... as much as up to 5 inches or more... mainly from later Saturday morning through Saturday evening. As the storm system is still in the initial stages of developing... the exact track remains uncertain. If the low moves farther to the west... the winter storm impacts would be diminished across eastern and southeast Virginia. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
