The High Wind Warning is now in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to 7 PM EST Wednesday.
* Timing: this afternoon through early Wednesday evening.
* Winds: south to southeast winds increasing to 20 to 35 mph during the afternoon and evening. Winds will gradually become southwest early Wednesday then west behind a strong cold front. Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts 50 to 65 expected at the highest elevations.
* Impacts: the strongest winds will be at the highest elevations and along the downstream slopes of the ridges across southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina.
