areas and small streams in the city of Bedford... the city of
Danville... the city of Lynchburg... the city of Martinsville...
Bedford... Pittsylvania... Henry... Amherst... Buckingham... Appomattox...
Campbell... Charlotte... Franklin... Halifax... Patrick... Caswell...
Stokes and Rockingham counties...

At 1018 am EST Doppler radar showed that most of the moderate rain
has trended to patchy light rain across the warned area. Many
tributaries of the James... Roanoke and Dan rivers are flowing at
elevated or flooded levels.

* Some of the larger creeks and streams impacted by high water
include the Blackwater river... Goose Creek... Big Otter river... Mayo
river... Eden Smith River... and the slate river.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... highways and underpasses. Additionally... country
roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks... streams and other low
lying areas are subject to flooding.

the Roanoke River at Altavista.
* From this morning until late Friday night.
* At 07am Thursday the stage was... 17.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by this morning and continue to
rise to near 25.7 feet by this evening. The river will fall below
flood stage by later tomorrow.

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 am EST Friday...

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 am EST Friday.

Expect north to northeast wind at 15 to 30 mph... with gusts up to
45 mph possible. Because of the wet soil conditions... these winds
will likely be strong enough to down more trees... and possibly cause
power outages.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

This Wind Advisory means that winds will be high enough combined
with wet soils to down some trees. Use caution if traveling as
these gusts could down limbs and trees along highways.
