Botetourt County in west central Virginia
City of Lexington in west central Virginia
City of Covington in west central Virginia
southern Bath County in west central Virginia
Roanoke County in west central Virginia
northwestern Bedford County in south central Virginia
Rockbridge County in west central Virginia
Alleghany County in west central Virginia

* until 100 PM EST Thursday.

* Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches have fallen since Tuesday
morning across much of the area.

* Flooding is expected in Montgomery and Roanoke counties and the
cities of Salem and Roanoke along the South Fork and upper Roanoke
River and other tributaries leading to the Roanoke River.

Flooding of the tributaries and streams that flow into the upper
James River is also expect... including Potts Creek in Alleghany
County... Johns Creek in Craig County... Craig creek in Botetourt
County... and Kerrs Creek in Rockbridge County and the city of
Lexington.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the
warned area by this evening.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... highways and underpasses. Additionally... country
roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks... streams and other low
lying areas are subject to flooding.
