A high surf advisory remains in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 am EST Thursday.
A period of strong southeast winds beginning late this afternoon and continue this evening will allow nearshore waves to build to around 8 feet for the Eastern Shore beaches. The waves are expected to subside as the winds turn offshore Thursday morning.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.

National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated strong ling of showers and thunderstorms from Tappahannock to Jarratt... or from Tappahannock to 10 miles east of Purdy... moving east at 40 mph. The strong thunderstorms will be near... Tappahannock around 1005 PM EST... Kennard around 1010 PM EST... Haynesville around 1015 PM EST... Village around 1020 PM EST... Lottsburg around 1025 PM EST... Avalon around 1030 PM EST...
Very heavy rainfall... wind gusts to 45 mph... and lightning are expected in the path of this line of storms. If you hear thunder... you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move into a safe shelter before these storms reach your area. Remain indoors until the storms have passed.
Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will cause ponding of water on roadways... and possible localized flooding in low lying and flood prone areas.
