Flood Watch in effect from 1 am EST Wednesday through Wednesday morning... Areas of light rain...drizzle and pockets of sleet and freezing rain will continue over much of the Shenandoah Valley this evening. The heaviest activity will continue along the I-81 corridor...especially from Staunton to Harrisonburg and northward toward Woodstock. Temperatures will remain in the middle and upper 30s...though isolated areas will drop to near and below freezing over the next couple of hours. A few hundredths of an inch of rainfall expected through 8 PM...with pockets of accumulating sleet and freezing rain...mainly on exposed surfaces and especially into the higher elevations of the surrounding ridge lines.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 am EST Wednesday.
Widespread rain and pockets of freezing rain are expected across the east slopes of the Potomac Highlands and central and northern Shenandoah Valley between 7 PM and 9 PM this evening. Precipitation is expected to change over to all rain before midnight.
Temperatures this evening will hover around freezing at times in some locations before midnight... so rain that falls in those areas will freeze on untreated surfaces... giving up to 0.1 inches of ice accumulation.

Augusta... Clarke... Frederick VA... Page... Rockingham... Shenandoah and Warren. In northeast West Virginia... Berkeley... Jefferson and Morgan.

* a strong low pressure will affect the area tonight. Although precipitation may begin as a wintry mix this evening... warmer temperatures aloft will change the precipitation to rain tonight... with an extended period of moderate to heavy rain expected. Widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are anticipated. The rain will further melt the existing snow on the ground in some areas... adding to the runoff. Rainfall of this amount will be capable of causing flooding of urban areas... small streams... and other poor drainage and lying areas.
