Winter Storm Warning
Statement as of 4:08 AM EST on December 18, 2009
... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 8 PM this evening to
midnight EST Saturday night...
The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Winter
Storm Warning... which is in effect from 8 PM this evening to
midnight EST Saturday night. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer
in effect.
A mix of rain and snow is expected to develop over eastern
Virginia and the Northern Neck by early this evening... as a low
pressure system strengthens along the southeast United States
coast.
A mix of rain and snow is expected to continue tonight..with a
changeover to a sleet/snow mix expected late Friday night into
early Saturday morning... before a changeover to mainly snow is
expected after sunrise Saturday morning and afternoon.
Significant accumulations of snow and sleet are expected. Snowfall
accumulations will vary from 6 to 10 inches north and west of a
line from New Kent to Warsaw... with the potential for 2 to 4
inches along immediate coast.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
