Sleet with a chance of freezing rain in the evening. Snow. Total snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches. Ice accumulation around a trace. Lows in the mid 20s. Light and variable winds... becoming northwest 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.
Wednesday
Partly sunny. A slight chance of snow showers in the morning. Blustery with highs in the mid 30s. West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Chance of snow 20 percent.
Partly cloudy in the evening...then clearing. Cold with lows around 19. West winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Wind chill values as low as 8 above.
Thursday
Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 40s. West winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Wind chill values as low as 6 above in the morning.

* Snow will continue this morning... becoming mixed with sleet by midday... mainly along and south of Highway 58 in Virginia. Some freezing rain is also possible with light ice accumulations likely.
* 1 to 5 inches of snow and sleet are expected.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.

... High Wind Warning in effect from midnight tonight to 5 am EST Thursday...
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a High Wind Warning... which is in effect from midnight tonight to 5 am EST Thursday. The high wind watch is no longer in effect.
Sustained northwest winds will increase to between 20 and 35 mph late tonight with gusts to 55 or 65 mph... as an Arctic cold front crosses the region. Wind gusts to 65 mph or stronger can occur across the highest elevations. Strong winds are most likely with the frontal passage tonight... and then again during the day Wednesday... especially as clearing occurs through the New River valley and the Blue Ridge.
Winds of this strength alone can knock down trees... power lines and weak structures. However wintry precipitation accumulating on trees and power lines through Wednesday night will make this occurrence even more likely.

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph are likely to cause sporadic power outages... fallen trees... minor property damage... and dangerous driving conditions for high profile vehicles. Residents should move unfastened items... such as garbage cans and deck furniture... indoors.
