Temperatures will continue to rise through the afternoon...however sub-freezing air may linger in valleys through 6 PM...producing a glaze of ice in a few locations. Low clouds and fog will become more abundant this afternoon. Visibilities are expected to be quite low...at or below one-half mile at times.

Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of snow showers. Lows in the lower 20s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph... becoming west with gusts up to 20 mph after midnight.

* Timing... freezing rain will change to rain by this evening. Deep valleys in the Potomac Highlands will hang onto icing the longest.
* Temperatures... in the lower 30s this afternoon will continue to rise into the mid 30s by this evening.
* Winds... 10 to 15 mph for the valleys... 15 to 25 mph with gusts 35 to 45 mph for ridges above 2000 feet.

* strong low pressure will affect the area through tonight... bringing moderate to occasionally heavy rain. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are expected through tonight... with locally higher amounts to 2 inches possible. The rainfall combined with melting snow will be capable of causing flooding in urban areas as well as small streams and other poor drainage and low lying areas.
