Statement as of 3:37 PM EST on December 23, 2009 ... High wind watch in effect from Thursday evening through Friday morning... The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a high wind watch... which is in effect from Thursday evening through Friday morning. * Timing: from 6pm Thursday evening until noon on Friday * winds: southeast winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 to 60 mph. * Impacts: trees and power lines may be blown down. Power outages and blocked roads are possible. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts. |
