Statement as of 11:54 PM EST on December 24, 2009 ... Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until noon EST Friday... An Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until noon EST Friday. * Freezing rain will overspread the area overnight... and then continue into Friday morning. * Around a quarter inch of icing can be expected... mainly along the Blue Ridge... by noon Friday. Areas along and on either side of the Blue Ridge Parkway may see up to a half inch of icing. * This amount of icing may down tree limbs and power lines. * Road temperatures overnight into early Friday morning may be cold enough to become icy... especially across the higher elevations. Precautionary/preparedness actions... An Ice Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of ice accumulations will make travel dangerous or impossible. Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. These ice accumulations may lead to snapped power lines and falling tree branches that add to the danger. The public is encouraged to report ice accumulation to the National Weather Service via email at rnk.Skywarn@noaa.Gov or at phone number 1... 8 6 6... 2 1 5... 4 3 2 4. |

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST Friday. * Strongest winds are expected overnight into Friday afternoon. * Southeast winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 to 55 mph across the highest elevations. * Downed trees and power lines will be possible. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Wind Advisory means that winds gusting to 50 to 55 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. |
