* Through late tonight

* periods of moderate to heavy rain are expected this afternoon
and tonight. Total rainfall amounts of 3.0 to 4.0 inches by 600
am Thursday morning are forecast... with additional heavy rain
possible during the day Thursday in the piedmonts of southwest
Virginia and northwest North Carolina.

* Heavy rainfall will cause flooding of creeks and small
streams... possibly beginning this afternoon. Flooding of main
Stem rivers is also expected later tonight through Thursday. See

and lower Roanoke rivers.
