... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect from 6 PM this evening
to 6 PM EST Friday...
... High surf advisory remains in effect from 6 PM this evening to
6 PM EST Friday...

A combination of strong high pressure building from the north and
remnants of Ida off the southeast coast... will allow an extended
period of strong onshore flow to develop along the Virginia and
Maryland coasts.

The approaching new phase of the moon... in tandem with the strong
onshore flow... will lead to increasing tidal anomalies of around
2 ft above normal... beginning this afternoon. Tidal departures
then building to 3 to 4 ft above normal from tonight through
Friday afternoon. This will likely result in moderate to
significant coastal flooding... with the greatest threat for
flooding coming with the Thursday and Friday high tide cycles.

High tides will be between 300 am and 500 am EST Thursday
morning... and 330 PM to 530 PM EST Thursday afternoon over the
warning area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has expanded the

* Flood Watch to include portions of the lower Eastern Shore of
Maryland and the Eastern Shore of Virginia... including the
following areas... in the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland...
inland Worcester and Maryland beaches. In the Eastern Shore of
Virginia... Accomack.

* Through Friday morning

* periods of heavy rain are expected beginning today... and lasting
through Thursday night. Total rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches
are anticipated through 700 am Friday morning... with locally
higher amounts possible.

* Periods of heavy rainfall may cause flooding of creeks and small
streams. Additionally... flooding may occur in poor drainage
areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

... High Wind Warning in effect from 6 PM this evening to 11 am
EST Friday...

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a High Wind
Warning... which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to 11 am EST
Friday.

The combination of strong high pressure building into northern New
England... and low pressure moving off the coastal Carolinas today
into tonight with result in increasing northeast winds. These
winds from the Maryland beaches south across the Virginia Eastern
Shore and Hampton Roads to the northern Outer Banks will average
30 to 40 mph with higher gusts... beginning tonight... and
continuing into Friday morning. The winds will slowly subside
Friday afternoon into Saturday as the high weakens... and low
pressure moves east and out to sea.

Strong winds and saturated soil may result in downed trees... and
cause power outages.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. Winds this strong
can also make driving difficult... especially for high profile
vehicles. Use extra caution.

NC... wwh26... serving portions of southeastern Virginia and
northeastern North Carolina... is out of service this morning. The
