Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 8:34 PM EDT on April 20, 2015

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Pulaski County in southwestern Virginia...
Wythe County in southwestern Virginia...

* until 230 am EDT Tuesday

* at 825 PM EDT... local law enforcement report continued flooding
across much of Wythe County. In addition... river gauges indicated
continued flooding in parts of the region.

The New River in southeast Wythe and southern Pulaski County remains
above flood stage. The gage at Allisonia continues to slowly fall
with a reading of 10.21 feet around 800 PM. Flood stage is 8 feet.
The river should fall below flood stage later tonight.

This warning replaces the Flash Flood Warning that was in effect
across much of the region.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.
