Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 5:05 AM EST on March 06, 2015

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 515 PM EST Friday for
Washington... Scott counties and the city of Bristol...

At 500 am EST... many streams and creeks remain at bankfull or higher
this morning over much of Scott and Washington counties Virginia.
Temperatures will warm above freezing later today under mostly sunny
skies. This will allow additional runoff from melting areas of snow
and ice... and a prolonged threat of minor flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Abingdon... Gate City... Bristol VA... Bristol... Weber City... Glade
Spring... Damascus... Nickelsville... Dungannon... Duffield...
Clinchport... Lindell... Fort Blackmore... Hiltons... Benhams...
Holston... Hilander Park... Konnarock and Emory-Meadow View.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from earlier rainfall and melting snow will cause
flooding of small creeks and streams... highways and underpasses in
urban areas. Additionally... country roads and farmlands along the
banks of creeks... streams and other low lying areas are subject to
flooding.
