* the avg temperature for the month of may was 71.5 f. This is 5.1
degrees above normal and ranks as the 6th warmest may on record.

* However... it is crucial to note that the weather equipment at
Richmond was moved in 2005... to a location that is significantly
warmer than the previous location. The following tables list the
avg temperature for the current may as well as may 2004 (another
warm may) for several sites within the Wakefield cwa. In nearly
all cases... the difference between Richmond and a given
surrounding site is at least 1 degree warmer now than it was
prior to 2005 when it was at the previous location. For
example... Richmond was 1.3 f warmer than the nearby Sandston co-op
site in may of 2004 (73.0 f vs. 71.7 f) but 2.7 f warmer than
Sandston in may 2015 (71.5 f vs 68.8 f). In terms of climate
ranking... this is significant.
