central Virginia east of the Blue Ridge...
The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a
red flag warning for high winds and low humidity... which is in effect
from 9 am this morning to 6 PM EDT this evening. The Fire Weather
Watch is no longer in effect.
* Humidity... 20 to 25 percent.
* Winds... northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
* Fuel moisture... less than 10 percent.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
- High Wind Advisory
A high wind advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 mph or greater are expected to occur for at least 1 hour. This advisory can also be issued if winds of 46 mph or greater are expected for any length of time.
