Statement as of 5:00 AM MST on December 22, 2009 ... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 PM MST Wednesday... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow remains in effect until 11 PM MST Wednesday. * Affected area: this Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow is in effect for the Sanpete and Sevier valleys... and the southern and central mountains of Utah. * Snow accumulations: storm total accumulations of 4 to 7 inches are expected in the Sanpete Valley... with 2 to 5 inches in the Sevier Valley through Wednesday evening. In the mountains accumulations of 10 to 20 inches are expected... with the heaviest amounts in the central mountains. * Timing: snow will begin in the mountains early this morning... then spread into the valley elevations by late this morning. The heaviest snow is expected to fall this afternoon through Wednesday morning. Snowfall will gradually decrease in areal coverage and intensity late Wednesday afternoon and evening. * Snow levels: generally down to the valley floor... though a brief period of rain and snow mixed is possible at the lower elevations this morning. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning means significant accumulations of snow are expected or occurring. Driving conditions may be hazardous. Use caution. Keep a winter storm survival kit in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
