Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, February 12, 2012.

The East dries out on Sunday, but wet weather continues moving through the West. A trough of low pressure advances eastward over the Great Basin and Central Rockies, producing moderate snow showers over Utah and Colorado. Winter weather advisories have been issued for parts of western Colorado as snowfall accumulations may reach from 6 to 8 inches by Sunday evening. Most of Utah, western Wyoming, and northern New Mexico should see lighter snow showers with accumulation around 1 to 2 inches. The tail end of this trough will extend into western Texas, bringing snow and freezing rain showers into northwestern Texas. Precipitation from this system will move into the Texas Panhandle late Sunday into Monday morning. Winter storm warnings have been issued for the region as 3 to 5 inches of snow are possible, with ice accumulations from 0.10 to 0.30 inches by Sunday evening. This will cause dangerous roads and travel conditions.

Meanwhile, another trough of low pressure and associated cold front approach the West Coast on Sunday. This system will reach the coasts of the Pacific Northwest and northern California in the afternoon and evening hours, bringing more rain showers. Temperatures will remain cool over most of the West Coast as this system pushes clouds and moisture onshore.

In the East, a strong ridge of high pressure allows for dry, sunny, and cool weather to persist. This system creates strong flow from the north, pushing cold air into the Plains and Eastern Valleys. Expect highs to range in the 20s in the Midwest, while the Ohio River Valley and Tennessee Valleys will see highs in the 30s. Freeze advisories have been issued for the Gulf states as low temperatures will drop into the 20s Sunday night. Dangerous fire conditions spread over the Southeastern states due to high pressure creating a very dry airmas with strong winds.

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 6 am this morning to
midnight CST tonight...

The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow and sleet... which is in effect
from 6 am this morning to midnight CST tonight.


* Impacts: accumulations of snow and sleet may result in hazardous
driving conditions. Roadways... especially bridges and overpasses
will become slick and hazardous where the heaviest wintry precipitation
accumulates.

* Timing: a mix of snow and sleet will develop this morning... then
transition to rain... snow and sleet this afternoon. This
evening... a mix of sleet and rain is expected with a transition
to mostly rain after midnight.

* Accumulations: snowfall and sleet accumulations of up to 1
inch... with isolated higher amounts... are possible.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while
driving.

through 6 PM this evening...

If you must travel today... please slow down and allow yourself
plenty of stopping distance.

At 1211 PM... the Kimble County sheriff's office and the Fire
Department reported about an inch of snow in Junction. Law
enforcement officials have also reported a few vehicle accidents in
Kimble County. At 1140 am... the Sutton County sheriff's office
reported very light snow in Sonora... .and the Ozona Fire Department
reported some light freezing rain and sleet.

At 1212 PM... radar showed the leading edge of a large band of snow
mixed with a little sleet and freezing rain quickly approaching
Mertzon... San Angelo... Brady... and San Saba. Movement was north at
25 mph. This area of wintry precipitation will make bridges and
overpasses very slippery as it moves north.

An inch of snow is possible mainly along and south of a line from
Sterling City to Brownwood through 4 PM... while most of the snow
should taper off along the i10 corridor between 1 and 2 PM.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect for all of west central Texas
through 6 PM this evening...
