Statement as of 4:09 AM CDT on July 10, 2009 ... Heat index values from 105 to 110 degrees this afternoon... Above normal temperatures will combine with moderately high afternoon humidity values to produce heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees during the peak heating hours this afternoon across much of the Rio Grande Valley and deep south Texas. Drink plenty of water... before you get thirsty. Wear lightweight and light colored clothing. Reserve strenuous exercise for evening hours. Take frequent breaks from the heat. Stay in air conditioned locations if possible. Do not leave children or pets unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when vehicle interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
