The heat advisory is now in effect until 7 PM CDT Saturday.
This heat advisory is in effect for northeast Texas... northwest
and north central Louisiana... southwest Arkansas... and southeast
Oklahoma.
A strong ridge of high pressure aloft will remain in place across
the Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley through
Saturday... allowing afternoon high temperatures to reach the upper
90s to in excess of 100 degrees today. Although moisture
associated with an upper level disturbance is expected to increase
from the northeast Saturday... resulting in slight cooler afternoon
temperatures... humidity levels will still remain high... resulting
in heat indices ranging from 105 to 109 degrees both today and
Saturday over much of the four state region.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of non alcoholic... non carbonated fluids...
and stay in an air-conditioned room as much as possible. If
using fans... open windows to allow for fresh air circulation.
Stay out of the sun as much as you can... and check up on
relatives and neighbors. Do not Forget the pets... as they need
plenty of water and shade as well.
