Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Bands of mixed precipitation continue to move across the region from the west. Snow and sleet continues in the area mainly along and north of I-20. Temperatures along and east of the I-35 corridor are above freezing and accumulations are brief due to melting. Light accumulations of snow and sleet are possible mainly on elevated surfaces...such as car tops and grass. Accumulations of an inch or so of snow and sleet is possible primarily to the northwest of a line from Comanche...to Weatherford...to Denton...to Paris where temperatures are below freezing. To the south of I-20 rain showers were occurring with rainfall amounts less than 1/10.

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 9 am CST Monday...

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for sleet... snow and freezing rain... which is in
effect until 9 am CST Monday.

* Timing... wintry precipitation is possible now through 6 am.

* Accumulations... sleet and snow accumulations up to 1 inch is
possible. Light icing possible on elevated surfaces

* main impact... accumulations will be primarily confined to
elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses... which may
become slick and hazardous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Some light accumulations of snow and ice are possible... especially
on elevated surfaces. Bridges and overpasses will be the first
locations where icy spots may develop. Please travel with caution.
