Expect heat index values from around 105 degrees to near 110 degrees across west central Texas this afternoon. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A heat advisory means that a period of high temperatures is expected. High temperatures and high relative humidity values will combine to create conditions where heat related illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of water... stay in an air conditioned room... stay out of the sun... and check on relatives and neighbors.

Statement as of 02:35 am CDT on July 10, 2009 ... Record high temperatures set at Abilene and San Angelo... A record high temperature of 106 degrees was set at Abilene yesterday. This breaks the old record of 103 set in 1918. This old record of 103 was also tied in 1964 and again in 1978. A record high temperature of 105 degrees was set at San Angelo yesterday. This ties the old record of 105 set in 1917.
