... Heat advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 6 PM CDT
this evening...
The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a heat
advisory... which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 6 PM
CDT this evening.
Very hot temperatures this afternoon and higher dewpoints behind
the sea-breeze will produce heat indices between 110 and 113
degrees across portions of south Texas. The heat index values are
likely to occur between 1 PM and 5 PM.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Children... the elderly and people with chronic ailments are usually
the first to suffer from the heat. Heat exhaustion... cramps or in
extreme cases heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to
these conditions. Friends... relatives or neighbors should check on
people who may be at risk. Young children and pets should never be
left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is
especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can
reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
If you must be outside... reduce your activities... drink plenty of
water... take frequent breaks and wear light colored clothing.
A heat advisory is issued when the heat index is forecast to
reach 110 degrees or higher for two hours or more.
