A heat advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CDT this evening.
Above normal heat with near record high temperatures and moderate
to high humidity will once again contribute to elevated heat index
values across inland deep south Texas through the afternoon hours.
High temperatures this afternoon exceed the century mark or above
for most inland areas west of Highway 77. Heat index values of 105
to 110 degrees will occur for most of the afternoon across inland
areas... with heat index values of 111 degrees or higher forecast
for at least a couple of hours across the counties of Zapata... Jim
Hogg... Brooks... Starr... and Hidalgo.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Managers of personnel working outside during the afternoon hours
should be aware of the need for plenty of breaks and ample water
and rest for workers. If you must be outdoors... try to do so
during the early morning or evening. Drink plenty of water...
especially before you get thirsty.
At risk residents... including small children... the elderly and
the infirm... should remain in air conditioned locations and
should be checked on frequently.
A heat advisory is issued when the heat index... a measure of how
it feels when temperature and humidity are combined... equals or
exceeds 111 for 2 hours or more during the day... and observed
nighttime temperatures remain 75 degrees or above... for two
consecutive days or more.
