mainly along and north of an Ozona to San Angelo to Brownwood line
starting sunrise Sunday morning and continuing through Sunday
evening.

people with travel plans across west central Texas should stay tuned
to additional updates and be prepared to adjust their plans should
the icy conditions become more widespread.
In addition... with much more widespread icy conditions possible
across the Permian Basin and South Plains... anyone with travel plans
into those areas should be prepared to postpone their trip or at
least give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination.
Overview...
the combination of a cold Arctic airmass and an approaching upper
level system will bring a chance of wintry precipitation to parts of
west central Texas Sunday and Sunday night. This precipitation may
develop as early as shortly after sunrise across the northern
Edwards Plateau... and then spread northeast across the remainder of
west central Texas by noon. The wintery mix is expected to continue
through Sunday evening... coming to an end before sunrise Monday
morning.
Temperatures will remain extremely critical on Sunday and Sunday
night... and there remain quite a bit of uncertainty on whether the
wintery mixture develops and how widespread it may be... or if it
remains as a cold rain. Right now... it appears that with
temperatures at or near freezing for much of the day on Sunday along
and north of an Ozona to San Angelo to Brownwood line... a mixture of
rain... freezing rain... and sleet will be likely. The precipitation
is expected to remain light... and any ice accumulations will be
light as well.
As temperatures actually warm Sunday evening... the potential for
wintery precipitation will shift north as well. By midnight Sunday
night... temperatures are expected to be well above freezing areawide
and the threat for ice accumulation will end.
Although any ice accumulation is expected to be spotty and not
widespread... the uncertainty in this situation remains high. Should
temperatures end up colder than currently forecasted... more of west
central Texas will see the impact of icy conditions and the threat
of hazardous travel conditions will increase.

Winter weather returns to west central Texas...
The combination of a cold Arctic airmass and an approaching upper
level system will bring a chance of wintry precipitation to parts of west
central Texas Sunday and Sunday night.
Precipitation will begin to increase after sunrise Sunday mainly
over the northern Edwards Plateau and parts of the Big Country and
Concho Valley. A mix of rain and freezing rain is expected generally
along and north of an Ozona... to Paint Rock... to Coleman line.
Little ice accumulation is expected for most areas. However...
overpasses... bridges and exposed surfaces may see some light
accumulations. Sunday afternoon... a mix of rain and sleet is then
expected north of Mertzon... to San Angelo... to Brownwood line.
South of this line mostly rain is expected. Little to no
accumulation of sleet is expected as surface temperatures should
remain above freezing. After sunset... a mix of rain and sleet is
expected over much of the Big Country and northern Concho
Valley... then becoming all rain after midnight.
Although little accumulation of ice and sleet is expected at this
time... a lot of uncertainty remains and a slight change in
forecast temperatures could result in higher amounts. Residents
are urged to continue to monitor future forecasts from the
National Weather Service in San Angelo as this possible winter
weather event unfolds.
