... Fire danger elevated over the 4th of July weekend...
Ongoing drought conditions across south Texas have resulted in
extremely dry and stressed vegetation. Under these conditions...
the use of fireworks during the 4th of July Holiday often results
in an increased risk for accidental fires.
Due to this risk... several counties in south Texas have established
bans on aerial fireworks. In addition... many cities across south
Texas also ban fireworks within city limits... including Corpus
Christi... Laredo... and the city of Victoria.
Help prevent deadly wildfires. If fireworks are permitted where
you live... and you will be using them... make sure to follow all
instructions. Keep fireworks away from grassy areas and keep a
bucket of water or a water hose close by. Make sure there is adult
supervision at all times. Make sure all fireworks are out cold
before disposing of them.
Remember too that in such drought conditions accidental fires can
start from machinery... motor vehicles... and throwing burning
cigarettes on the ground.
