... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until noon CST
Tuesday...
A coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until noon CST Tuesday.
Tides will continue to average between 1 and 1.5 feet above normal
through today. The actual tides will be between 2 and 2.5 feet
above mean sea level at the time of high tide with the highest
values occurring along the Gulf side of the barrier islands. Incoming
large swells will also add to the coastal flood threat. Swells
will push the water up to the dunes consistently today and tonight
on Padre Island. Some beach access roads will likely become
flooded. A few of the lowest-lying spots and roads along on the
Bay Side of the barrier islands will also become flooded during
high tide. Some typically susceptible areas include Laguna shores
Road in Flour Bluff as well as some Low Bay-front roads at
Ingleside Bay the Bay in San Patricio County and Indianola in
Calhoun County. Alternate routes of travel may be necessary.
A secondary... minor high tide will occur at 833 am CST this morning
at Port Aransas. The next major high tide at Port Aransas will
occur at 1120 PM CST this evening. The next high tide at Port
O'Connor will occur at 513 am CST this morning.
In addition to the coastal flooding... there will be a moderate risk
of rip currents today. The incoming large swells and northeast
winds will produce dangerous rip current conditions.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Driving on area beaches is not recommended today and tomorrow due
to the high tidal levels. Camping on the beach is discouraged as
well.
Swimming and other marine-related activities are highly
discouraged due to the threat from heavy surf and rip currents.
Heavy surf and rip currents pose a danger to anyone in the water.
If you are caught in a rip current... do not panic. Escape the
current by swimming in a direction following the shoreline until
you are free from the rip current.
