Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 6:29 AM CDT on July 05, 2009
... Hot and humid conditions will continue today across south
central Texas...
Highs are expected to be around 99 to 103 across south central
Texas this afternoon. Heat index readings will be near 100 by noon
and increase to as high as 105 to 110 during the late afternoon
and evening hours.
The hot weather and ongoing drought... when combined with Holiday
activities and increased traffic... could also result in an
increased threat for wildfires and poor air quality. Extremely dry
vegetation will ignite easily from lit cigarettes... automobile
discharges... and fire related outdoor activities.
Try to avoid outdoor activities at the hottest time of the day. If
you must be outside... wear light weight and light colored clothes.
Be sure to drink more water than you think you need to stay well
hydrated. Also check on the elderly and make sure outdoor pets
have shade and plenty of water.
