The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a heat
advisory... which is in effect from 11 am this morning to 7 PM CDT
this evening. A heat advisory has also been issued from 11 am to
7 PM CDT Monday.
A combination of high temperatures with high relative humidity
will produce widespread heat index values of 110 to 115 degrees
across the Rio Grande Valley this afternoon and Monday afternoon.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Managers of personnel working outside today and Monday should be
aware of the need for plenty of breaks and ample water and rest
for workers.
Children... the elderly and people with chronic ailments are
usually the first to suffer from excessive heat. Cramps or in
extreme cases heat exhaustion and heat stroke can result from
prolonged exposure to these oppressive conditions. Please take the
responsibility of checking on people who may be at risk today and
Monday.
A heat advisory is issued when the heat index... a measure of how
it feels when temperature and humidity are combined... equals or
exceeds 111 for 2 hours or more during the day... and observed
nighttime temperatures remain 75 degrees or above... for two
consecutive days or more.
