... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this
evening...
A Winter Storm Warning for snow and blowing snow remains in effect
until 7 PM CDT this evening for all of the Texas and Oklahoma
panhandles.
* Timing: snow intensity will gradually decrease from west to east
today as the winter storm tracks across the Texas and Oklahoma
panhandles. While this storm exits slowly to the east... it is
expected to intensify... and will maintain strong north winds across
the warning area. As a result... blowing and drifting snow will
continue to impact the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles through this
afternoon.
* Main impact: snow amounts will range from 2 to 4 inches in the
western panhandles to 4 to 6 inches in the eastern counties. In
addition to the heavy snow... north winds of 20 to 30 mph... with
gusts exceeding 40 mph at times... will result in reduced
visibilities across much of the area. This impact will create
extremely hazardous travel and temporary whiteout conditions.
* Other impacts: wind chill values will remain in the single digits
to lower teens through the morning hours. Snow drifts in excess of
2 feet will be possible with this storm.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
If travel is necessary... motorists should be prepared for severe
winter weather conditions. Dress warmly and make sure your car is
in good running condition. Be sure that your car is winterized
and that brakes... lights... battery... exhaust... heater
connections... defroster... and windshield wipers are in good
working order.
A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
