Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

Strong thunderstorms will move east from the brush country this afternoon...toward the coastal plains and the Victoria Crossroads. Through 5 PM CDT...the thunderstorms will be capable of producing rainfall amounts over an inch an hour...along with small hail and gusts near 40 miles an hour. The area to be affected with the strongest storms will be west of a Pettus...La Gloria line...and east of a Whitsett...benavidas line. Locations west of the Whitsett...benavidas line will experience intermittent rain with an embedded thunderstorm or two...and perhaps an additional half of an inch of measurable precipitation.

Wells... Kleberg... Live Oak... Nueces and San Patricio counties...

At 356 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar was tracking
strong thunderstorms along a line extending from tecalote to La
Gloria... or along a line extending from 10 miles north of Alice to 6
miles south of Premont... moving east at 20 mph.

Penny size hail... and winds around 40 mph are expected with these
storms.
