... Red flag warning in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 9 PM
CDT this evening for sustained 20 foot level winds of 20 mph or
greater... relative humidity values below 15 percent and a high fire
danger across The Caprock...

The National Weather Service in Lubbock has issued a red flag
warning... which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 9 PM CDT
this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

Sustained wind speeds at the 20 foot level will become 20 to
30 mph this afternoon and relative humidities will fall into the
5 to 10 percent range across The Caprock. In addition... despite
recent rainfall... dry vegetation remains across the area and the
fire danger is considered high across the central South Plains to
very high near the Texas New Mexico border. This will lead to
critical fire conditions. These conditions will continue through
the evening before abating around 9 PM.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will
create rapid fire growth potential.
